Unknown gunmen numbering about forty, in the early hours of Monday stormed the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad located in Garki, Abuja, killing two policemen and freeing about 30 inmates among whom are some terrorists’ suspects.
The police had however denied that terror suspects were among the escapees. They also said that 25 of the 30 detainees had so far been rearrested.
The attack at the detention facility at about 2:00am reportedly lasted for few minutes recording three deaths; a police Inspector, Fakat Zaremi, a mobile police officer and one of the attackers.
Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who visited the scene Monday afternoon, has ordered a high-powered panel headed by a Senior Police Officer to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
